ReciproCITY co-director Michael Carriere served as lead historian for Culture Work, a mural project that sought to capture the history of United Migrant Opportunity Services (UMOS), a Milwaukee-based organization that has fought for Latino civil rights for over 50 years. Carriere worked with a team of interns from ArtWorks for Milwaukee on collecting the oral histories of those who worked with UMOS. The interns then worked with lead artist Raoul Deal on the design, creation, and installation of a large-scale mural informed by these oral histories. The completed mural can now be seen on the side of the Butters-Fetting building in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point neighborhood. (1669 S. 1st Street).
